Pratila se u Hrvatskoj lijepa priča West Bromwich Albiona iz sezone 19/20, posebno zato što je autor uspjeha bio naš Slaven Bilić. Luda utrka za prva dva mjesta i promociju u Premier ligu koja je osigurana tek u zadnjem danu prvenstva.

Najviše je momčad pomogao gurnuti preko granice promocije Brazilac Matheus Pereira. Sjajni veznjak je predvodio Albion s osam golova i čak 16 asistencija čime je i osigurao visok transfer od 18 milijuna eura u Al Hilal polovicom 2021. godine.

No, mnogo više se događalo s Pereirom nego što se moglo vidjeti u prijenosu utakmica. Borio se s depresijom kroz karijeru, a čak je i razmišljao o oduzimanju svog života.

Sve je ispričao i otkrio za The Players Tribune, a izdvojio je upravo Hajdukovog Filipa Krovinovića kao jednog od najpozitivnijih utjecaja u životu:

- U Albionu sam proveo najbolje nogometne dane. Igrao sam dobro, Osjećao sam se važnim za momčad, za navijače, a tada mi se i posrećilo u životu: Hrvat u momčadi, Filip Krovinović, koji je igrao za Benficu i govorio portugalski, puno mi je pomogao - otkrio je Pereira pa nastavio:

- Najluđa stvar od svega je što smo se natjecali za istu poziciju. Unatoč tome, ni u jednom trenutku me nije zadirkivao ili prestao pričati sa mnom. U obje sezone bio sam najbolji za West Brom. Igrao sam redovito što nikad prije nisam imao, ali to nije spriječilo momčad da se vrati u drugu ligu.

Nakon West Broma, Pereira se okušao u Saudijskoj Arabiji, a tada je dotakao dno u životu:

- Al Hilal je poslao apsurdnu ponudu i ponovno sam se preselio. Bojao sam se što će mi ta nova promjena učiniti s glavom, ali financijski je bila vrlo dobra. Nije trebalo dugo da se psihološki pad ponovno pojavi.

- U West Bromwichu smo sudjelovali u maloj kršćanskoj zajednici i to me ojačalo, dobio sam podršku. U Saudijskoj Arabiji nije bilo ničega sličnog. Također su mi počeli nedostajati roditelji i nisam mogao pronaći način da se vratim u kontakt s njima. Onda sam se jednog dana probudio i tama se nastanila u mojoj duši.

Pereira je otkrio i najcrnji trenutak svog života:

- Jedne noći dok sam bio kod kuće zgrabio sam ključeve auta i istrčao. Brzo sam se spustio liftom, uzeo auto iz garaže i vozio kao lud. Nije me bilo briga za odredište, samo da je kraj. Onda mi je zazvonio mobitel. Bila je to moja mlađa sestra. Javio sam se plačući. "Ne mogu više, ne mogu više, ne mogu više. Pomozite mi, zaboga! Želim se ubiti!" Nazvala me da sa mnom podijeli najsretniju vijest u svom životu: postat će majka, a ja sam uništavao sve - sve što je bilo blizu ili daleko od mene.

- Želio sam se riješiti toliko patnje da nisam ni shvaćao odakle dolazi. Bilo je noći kada sam popio tri boce vina. Trenirao sam pijan nekoliko puta i još puno puta proveo u bolnici s hipokalemijom, uzimajući serum za liječenje nedostatka kalija u krvi, jer nisam jeo, samo sam pio alkohol - otkrio je Pereira.

Pratila se u Hrvatskoj lijepa priča West Bromwich Albiona iz sezone 19/20, posebno zato što je autor uspjeha bio naš Slaven Bilić. Luda utrka za prva dva mjesta i promociju u Premier ligu koja je osigurana tek u zadnjem danu prvenstva.

Najviše je momčad pomogao gurnuti preko granice promocije Brazilac Matheus Pereira. Sjajni veznjak je predvodio Albion s osam golova i čak 16 asistencija čime je i osigurao visok transfer od 18 milijuna eura u Al Hilal polovicom 2021. godine.

No, mnogo više se događalo s Pereirom nego što se moglo vidjeti u prijenosu utakmica. Borio se s depresijom kroz karijeru, a čak je i razmišljao o oduzimanju svog života.

Sve je ispričao i otkrio za The Players Tribune, a izdvojio je upravo Hajdukovog Filipa Krovinovića kao jednog od najpozitivnijih utjecaja u životu:

- U Albionu sam proveo najbolje nogometne dane. Igrao sam dobro, Osjećao sam se važnim za momčad, za navijače, a tada mi se i posrećilo u životu: Hrvat u momčadi, Filip Krovinović, koji je igrao za Benficu i govorio portugalski, puno mi je pomogao - otkrio je Pereira pa nastavio:

- Najluđa stvar od svega je što smo se natjecali za istu poziciju. Unatoč tome, ni u jednom trenutku me nije zadirkivao ili prestao pričati sa mnom. U obje sezone bio sam najbolji za West Brom. Igrao sam redovito što nikad prije nisam imao, ali to nije spriječilo momčad da se vrati u drugu ligu.

Nakon West Broma, Pereira se okušao u Saudijskoj Arabiji, a tada je dotakao dno u životu:

- Al Hilal je poslao apsurdnu ponudu i ponovno sam se preselio. Bojao sam se što će mi ta nova promjena učiniti s glavom, ali financijski je bila vrlo dobra. Nije trebalo dugo da se psihološki pad ponovno pojavi.

- U West Bromwichu smo sudjelovali u maloj kršćanskoj zajednici i to me ojačalo, dobio sam podršku. U Saudijskoj Arabiji nije bilo ničega sličnog. Također su mi počeli nedostajati roditelji i nisam mogao pronaći način da se vratim u kontakt s njima. Onda sam se jednog dana probudio i tama se nastanila u mojoj duši.

Pereira je otkrio i najcrnji trenutak svog života:

- Jedne noći dok sam bio kod kuće zgrabio sam ključeve auta i istrčao. Brzo sam se spustio liftom, uzeo auto iz garaže i vozio kao lud. Nije me bilo briga za odredište, samo da je kraj. Onda mi je zazvonio mobitel. Bila je to moja mlađa sestra. Javio sam se plačući. "Ne mogu više, ne mogu više, ne mogu više. Pomozite mi, zaboga! Želim se ubiti!" Nazvala me da sa mnom podijeli najsretniju vijest u svom životu: postat će majka, a ja sam uništavao sve - sve što je bilo blizu ili daleko od mene.

- Želio sam se riješiti toliko patnje da nisam ni shvaćao odakle dolazi. Bilo je noći kada sam popio tri boce vina. Trenirao sam pijan nekoliko puta i još puno puta proveo u bolnici s hipokalemijom, uzimajući serum za liječenje nedostatka kalija u krvi, jer nisam jeo, samo sam pio alkohol - otkrio je Pereira.
